Sorell Martial Arts Academy
Head Coach ADAM NEWTON
Sorell Martial Arts Academy, SMAA, was founded in 2016 by life long martial artist and pioneer Adam Newton. SMAA seeks to serve the Sorell community by providing a positive environment for kids and adults to train and develop as people. Training in Martial Arts is challenging and rewarding, with every session working a sweat.
Students will develop great problem-solving skills as well as the kind of maturity that comes from working through difficulty. This is achieved in a team environment under the watchful eyes of one of the most experienced martial arts coaches and competitors in the country.
Adam has had a lifetime of experience training in martial arts, starting at a young age with judo. Adam then went on to train Muay Thai Kick Boxing and competed in several fights. Adam took up Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 1996 and has dedicated himself to this art since then. Adam was the first Tasmanian to reach the ranks of blue, purple, brown and black belt and most Tasmanian BJJ practitioners can trace their BJJ lineage to Adam.
Adam is an experienced coach in BJJ, Judo and Muay Thai as well as in mixed martial arts. He is renowned for his detailed instruction and his ability to relate to his students. Adam is also sought after for private instruction in BJJ and MMA.
